"WHERE DOGS AND CATS COME FROM"

Adam was walking in the garden and cried out to God, "You used to walk with me every day.
Now I do not see you anymore. I am lonely here, and it is difficult for me to remember how much you love me."

And God said, "I will create a companion for you that will be with you forever and who will be a reflection of my love for you, so that you will love me even when you cannot see me.
Regardless of how selfish or childish or unlovable you may be, this new companion will accept you as you are and will love you as I do, in spite of yourself."

So God created a new animal to be a companion for Adam. And it was a good animal.
And God was pleased. And the new animal was pleased to be with Adam and he wagged his tail.

And Adam said, "Lord, I have already named all the animals in the kingdom and I cannot think of a name for this new animal."
And God said, "Because I have created this new animal to be a reflection of my love for you, his name will be a reflection of my own name, and you will call him DOG."

And Dog lived with Adam and was a companion to him and loved him. And Adam was comforted.
And God was pleased. And Dog was content and wagged his tail.

After a while, it came to pass that Adam's guardian angel came to the Lord and said, "Lord, Adam has become filled with pride.
He struts and preens like a peacock and he believes he is worthy of adoration.
Dog has indeed taught him that he is loved, but perhaps too well."

And the Lord said, "I will create for him a companion who will be with him forever and who will see him as he is.
The companion will remind him of his limitations, so he will know that he is not always worthy of adoration."

And God created CAT to be a companion to Adam. And Cat would not obey Adam.
And when Adam gazed into Cat's eyes, he was reminded that he was not the supreme being.

And Adam learned humility.
And God was pleased.
And Adam was greatly improved.
And Dog was happy.
And Cat didn't give a shit one way or the other.

アダムは庭を歩きながら、神に向って叫びました。
「あなたはかつて、毎日私と一緒に歩いてくれていたのに、今はもうあなたには会えない・・・
私はとっても寂しくて、もうあなたがどれ程私を愛しているのかを思い出すことも難しいのです。。」

神は言いました。「ではお前の為に、永遠に一緒にいられる友を創ってあげよう。それは私の愛を映し出す姿でもあるから、お前は私に会えずとも私を愛する事ができるだろう。どんなにお前が自分勝手で、子供じみて、可愛げがなくとも、その友はお前をお前として受け入れ、私のようにお前を愛するだろう・・・たとえお前が気に留めずとも」

そして神はアダムの友となる新しい動物を創り上げました。それは良い動物でした。
神は喜びました。その新しい動物は、アダムと一緒にいられることを喜んで尻尾を振りました。

アダムは、「神様・・。私は既にこの王国のすべての動物達に名前をつけ、この新しい動物の名前を考える事ができません」と言いました。
神は言いました。「私はこの動物を、お前に私の愛を映し出す為に作ったのだから、私の名前ＧＯＤを思い起こす名前がよいだろう・・・そう、ＤＯＧと呼ぶがよい。。」
ＤＯＧはアダムと共に暮らし、友となり、彼を愛しました。。
アダムは慰められました。。神は喜びました。。そしてＤＯＧは満足し、尻尾を振りました。

しばらくして、アダムの守護天使が神のもとへやって来て言いました。
「神様、アダムはプライドが高くなりました。まるで孔雀のように着飾り、歩き回り、自分が崇拝に値すると信じているようです。
ＤＯＧは彼に、愛されると言う事を実によく教えましたが、たぶんしすぎてしまったようです」

すると神は言いました。「私はアダムに、彼と永遠に共にいながら、彼が彼として存在することを教えることのできる友を創ろう。その友は彼に制限というものを思い起こさせるだろう。そして彼は、自分が常に崇拝に値するわけではないという事を知るだろう」
神はＣＡＴをアダムの友となるよう創りました。。
ＣＡＴはアダムには従いません。そしてアダムがＣＡＴの目をみつめた時、アダムは自分が最高の存在ではではないのだという事を思い出しました。

そしてアダムは謙遜を学びました。。神は喜びました。。アダムはとても成長しました。。ＤＯＧは幸せでした。。
そしてＣＡＴは・・・きままに過ごすのでした。。(^_^;)
